Old, failing siding costs you more the longer it stays up. SOS Roofing and Siding helps North Wilkesboro homeowners understand their options, choose the right material, and complete replacement with minimal disruption.
Red Flags
Most homeowners wait too long to replace siding, which turns a straightforward project into a more expensive repair involving moisture damage and structural issues.
Bubbles beneath the surface indicate trapped moisture — a sign water has already infiltrated behind your siding and the panels can no longer do their job.
Significant fading beyond normal weathering means the pigment has broken down and the protective properties of the material have degraded. Painting over faded siding is a short-term fix, not a solution.
Sections that are pulling away from the wall or visibly bowing have lost their structural integrity. This problem gets worse with each weather cycle.
Any gap you can see between panels or at trim intersections is a point where your exterior envelope has failed. These rarely stay small on their own.
If you're repainting the exterior more often than every seven to ten years, the siding itself is the problem — it's not holding the coating the way sound material should.
Deteriorating siding loses its insulating value and develops gaps and cracks that increase air exchange between inside and outside. If your energy bills have risen without a clear cause, your exterior could be a factor.
The SOS Roofing and Siding Commitment
Our team has replaced siding on homes across North Wilkesboro, NC and understands how local weather patterns, humidity levels, and temperature swings affect material longevity.
Every estimate we provide breaks down the cost of materials, labor, and any required prep work. No mystery line items, no bait-and-switch after the job starts.
The people who gave you the estimate are the people who show up for installation. No handoffs to outside crews, no inconsistency in workmanship standards.
We take away everything we take off. Old panels, trim pieces, nails, and packaging are hauled off so your property is left clean at the end of every day.
Replacement Options
Full replacement gives us access to the entire exterior, which means we can address any moisture damage, add continuous insulation if desired, and ensure your new siding performs at the level the manufacturer intends. The finished result looks cohesive and lasts as long as the product is rated for.
Get an EstimateNot every replacement project requires a full exterior teardown. When damage is isolated to specific sections and the surrounding siding is in solid condition, we can replace only the affected panels. We match profiles and colors carefully to minimize visual inconsistency.
Get an EstimateIn situations where the existing siding is in stable condition and the structure supports the added weight, new siding can be installed directly over the existing layer. This approach reduces labor costs and shortens the project timeline while still giving your home a completely refreshed exterior appearance.
Get an EstimateHail, high winds, and flying debris can crack, dent, or perforate siding panels in a matter of minutes. Our team responds quickly to storm damage situations, assesses the full extent of impact, and gets replacement underway promptly to protect the structure underneath from secondary moisture damage.
Get an EstimateOur scheduling approach for multi-unit projects minimizes disruption to residents and allows us to sequence the work efficiently across multiple elevations. Project communication is clear from the first day to final cleanup.

What You Should Know
When North Wilkesboro homeowners ask us whether they should repair or replace, the answer almost always depends on two things: how widespread the damage is and how old the existing siding is. Isolated damage on siding that's otherwise in solid condition is usually worth repairing. But when we see systemic issues — widespread fading, multiple cracked panels, persistent moisture readings, or siding that's 20-plus years old — replacement is the more economical choice over a five to ten year window.
From an energy efficiency standpoint, new siding can make a meaningful difference to how your home performs year-round. This is especially true when you choose an insulated product that adds continuous foam backing beneath the panel layer. Continuous insulation eliminates thermal bridging at framing members, which is a significant source of heat loss in typical wall assemblies. North Wilkesboro homeowners who upgrade to insulated siding often notice a reduction in how hard their heating and cooling systems run during seasonal extremes — though we're careful never to project specific savings figures since results vary by home.
Steel siding is a growing category we see more often now, particularly on modern-style homes and in exposed, high-wind locations across North Wilkesboro, NC. Steel won't crack on impact the way vinyl can, it's non-combustible, and it's virtually impervious to moisture once properly installed and painted. The trade-offs are cost and the need for proper paint maintenance to prevent surface oxidation at any scratches or cut edges over time.
What the installation day actually looks like for a North Wilkesboro homeowner is worth describing plainly. Our crew arrives in the morning, does a brief walkthrough to confirm the scope, and sets up protection for your landscaping and any areas adjacent to the work zone. Old siding is pulled off methodically, loaded into a container or truck, and kept off your lawn and walkways throughout the day. The sheathing and house wrap are inspected before any new material goes up. Any issues found in the substrate are shown to you before work proceeds.
For homeowners in North Wilkesboro who are navigating the decision between contractors, we recommend asking every bidder for a few specific things: a copy of their liability insurance certificate and workers' compensation documentation, a written estimate that itemizes labor and materials separately, and references from similar projects completed in your area. Contractors who hesitate on any of those requests should be treated with caution. The siding replacement market has a reasonable number of operators who cut corners on insurance or substrate preparation in ways that create expensive problems down the road for homeowners. SOS Roofing and Siding provides all documentation before any project starts and is happy to connect you with past clients in North Wilkesboro and across North Wilkesboro, NC.

The repair-vs-replace decision comes down to how widespread the damage is and the age of the existing siding. Isolated damage on siding that's otherwise in solid shape is often worth repairing. But systemic problems — widespread fading, multiple failed panels, chronic moisture readings — usually make replacement the more economical choice over five to ten years.
New siding can improve your home's thermal performance, particularly if you choose an insulated product with foam backing or if the existing siding had developed gaps and cracks. The improvement is more significant when the old siding was in particularly poor condition. We're careful not to project specific savings figures since results vary by home and how it's used.
We assess storm damage thoroughly, document every affected area, and provide a clear written scope of work that supports your insurance claim. We don't make guarantees about claim outcomes, but we make sure the documentation is accurate and complete.
